Trade chiefs to meet Darling today
Drinks bodies to argue for fairer treatment on alcohol duty
Chiefs from the five main drinks industry trade bodies will today sit down with Alistair Darling to call for the duty escalator to be abandoned and a freeze on duty.
Michael Turner, chairman of the British Beer & Pub Association, will speak on behalf of the brewing and pub industry.
It is understood to be the first time in over a decade the trade has secured a meeting with a Chancellor prior to a Budget.
The Wine and Spirit Trade Association, the Gin and Vodka Association, National Association of Cider Makers and the Scotch Whisky Association will also be represented at the meeting.
